Dealing With Your Insurer

Making an insurance claim is rarely anyone's idea of a good week, particularly when you're also without a vehicle. At A1 Collision Repair Centre Innisfail, we handle insurance claims directly with your provider, which means quotes, assessments and approvals come through us rather than landing on you. We're an RACQ Selected Repairer, so claims through RACQ follow a process we deal with regularly. Whichever insurer you're with, we'll put together the documentation they need and keep you updated as the repair moves along. The repair work itself is the same smash repairs process we'd carry out on any vehicle. Call us on (07) 4061 7091 to get started.

Scope

How a Claim Moves Through the Workshop

The steps vary slightly between insurers, but the shape of a claim is fairly consistent.

  • We quote the repair and send the documentation your insurer asks for. That usually includes photographs, a damage assessment and an itemised cost breakdown.
  • The insurer reviews the quote and either approves it or requests an assessment. Some claims are approved on the paperwork alone, while others involve an assessor looking at the vehicle.
  • Once approved, we book the vehicle in and start the repair. Any additional damage found during the strip-down goes back to the insurer before that work goes ahead.
  • You pay your excess and we settle the balance with the insurer directly. The amount and timing of an excess is set by your policy, not by us.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases yes, though it depends on the policy, and some insurers direct claims to their own network by default. It's worth asking your insurer what your policy allows before the vehicle is towed anywhere.

Both describe a repairer an insurer has assessed and works with regularly. The exact terminology and what it involves varies between insurers, so it's best to check what a particular arrangement covers.

Hidden damage is common in collision work. We report it to the insurer as a supplementary claim rather than absorbing it into the original quote, and that part of the repair waits until the additional work is approved.
